The KIAB houses 2 terminals, T1 and T2, where T1 is domestic and T2 is international.
Terminal 1 is a single, grand terminal dedicated to domestic flights, covering an area of 150,556 m². It is capable of handling up to 20 million passengers annually. It also houses 2 lounges to give a comfortable space to the flyers. These lounges showcase local art and culture to the travelers. Also, there is a separate VIP lounge covering 930 m² for exclusive use.
Since Sept 12, 2023, T1 now only handles domestic flights. The airlines operating from Terminal 1 include IndiGo, Akasa Air, Alliance Air, and SpiceJet. All flights from other countries have been moved to Terminal 2.
The T2 of KIAB was inaugurated on Nov 11, 2022, by PM Modi and began operations in Jan 2023. Its build costs around Rs 5,000 crore and spans 255,000 sq.m. It increases the airport's capacity by 25 million passengers per year. There are also plans for a 2nd phase expected to add another 20 million passengers annually. It opened for domestic flights on Jan 15, 2023, and on Sept 12, 2023, it started handling all international flights.
The Kempegowda Airport has become the 3rd busiest airport in India and is the 25th in Asia. It ranks in the 56th position as the busiest airport as per the data of 2023-24.
